Can't Switch Formulas Like That!

Hello friends and family!

My eyes are getting better after my parents put these drops in them. They cost about five dollars per each drop and they target Staff infections. My dad puts about a half drop on each eyelid and the next day everything looks a bit better.

Today Grandma and Grandpa came over and took care of my parents and gave them a break to let them sleep. David and KwiYoung had this hair brained idea to change formula on me 'cold turkey'. They wanted to try a soy based one instead of milk based and I got stopped up the entire day...then, today, POW! i gave it to 'em in one lump sum. Then they read the directions to me. It said, "don't change formula all at once!" Mom, Dad, with all due respect, RTFM!

What?!@#$%

I said, with ALL DUE RESPECT.

For the last to days I have eaten 6 ounces less that the prior days. I want to make my parents realize they can't just switch things around on me without asking.

I sleep most days, listen to music until late with my parents, or watch TV while they try to keep me up just after eating. I can't believe they broke down and got the TV hooked up after so many years of not having it. I am glad tho, they are kind of brain dead right now and it makes them feel better going through all the changes they are facing right now.

Okay, drop me a note sometime.

Love,
Zion

Another Angelic Aunt

Kathy!

Thanks so much for the love and attention, diaper changes, bottles, and taking care of my sleepy parents with their clothes, breakfasts, lunches and dinners and store runs. Thanks for showing them so many things about us babies, holding me, keeping me warm and comforted.

Thanks for handling so many calls from my new friends and family and making sure everything ran smoothly.

I can't wait to talk to you!

Love,
Zion

Post Bris

Hey Everyone!

Here is the update.

While at the hospital I got an infection. It is called staff and it got on my eyelids. Since we don't exactly trust the last hospitals cleanliness, we went to another one which is newer and they saw us right away.

They didn't want to do anything too intrusive or aggressive and suggested some topical gel called Biactin or Polysporin and to dab it on my right eye only since the left one is drying up good.

Last night, on the advice of our pediatrition, we tried chamomile tea bags on my eyes.

The Biactin seems to be working nicely after 24 hours but it sure did give us a scare. Mom and dad are supposed to keep a close eye on it since I can't see too well yet.

I have gained back my birth-weight as of today and 45% of my food is mamas milk. Hey mom! Let's get it up to 60% next week, okay?

Aunt Kathy has been taking care of my parents while they take care of me and she loves on my like crazy...In fact she told me a story about how she used to hold my dad the same way she holds me...she must be really old!

Dad organized the spice cabinet for hours while I ate and slept and made dirty diapers. Mom, thanks so much for great love...I am really enjoying this skin on skin thing...so peaceful.

Oh yeah! Yesterday Ann, a lactation specialist, came by to help teach us about feeding and she said I was 'tongue tied'. I am not so sure...I think I just don't know what to do with my tongue to help me feed myself. I overheard them talking about some sort of exercises to help me with that. According to her it is either that, or go up to New York and get the posterior of my tongue cut a little bit so I can push it out farther.

That doesn't sound very fun to me at all!

My Brit Milah

Today was my Brit Milah (בְּרִית מִילָה [bə'rīt mī'lā] literally: "covenant of circumcision"), the day in which I fulfilled 3000 years of history by participating in a Jewish tradition honoring Gods Covenant with Abraham.

My parents, nervous and tired, got dressed as aunts Ellen and Kathy, Nancy and Susan and the Outlaws (their husbands) got the food and house ready for my big day.

Grandma and Papa brought the gauze, neosporin and wine and help to get me and my parents ready.

Mom and Dad walked in with me wrapped up in a blanket and then mom put me on a pillow. A strange man who I later found out was a Rabbi, and not only that but a Mohel (and the best in town, you should see his work) pulled down my diapers and put some numbing cream down below. Papa gently held my legs and stood next to my dad who was crying a bit, and then I don't know what happened...but I do know I cried a some too. The Mohel put some wine in my mouth on his little finger and then I heard dad say, "I thought that was for me!" They sang Mazel Tov, handed me to mom and then I passed out.

Thanks for coming to my official naming ceremony everyone!

Shalom!

All Good Now

Hey everybody!

I am going home AND the Brit Milah is ON! Dr. said I will have no problems with that at all. A Thanksgiving Bris...how abaout that!?

Billy Ruben is down to 12 from a high of 21.5. My yellow color is nearly all gone. All I have to do now is cooperate with Mommy feeding.

Aunt Kathy is here feeding my parents soup and rice pudding...YUM...can't wait to try that one day! Aunt Ellen is prepping a pump back at home so we can't get down to business....

I can't believe it is so complicated, but I overheard my parents talking about weighing diapers and measuring milk intake...I am gonna give 'em some heavy ones in teh next few days.

This is FUN!

Bye,
Zion

Bilirubin says "Bye-Bye"!

My parents are so happy.

While they went to take a shower, (and boy did they need it) the nurse came in a told me some great news.

Billy Ruben has left town! Yup, that's right. He took his dead red blood cell friends and had a big pee party in my 40 gram diaper. The biggest one yet!

Mom...Dad! Look what I made!

Not only that but the Photo Therapy has been DCed (they told me that means the doctor said it was discontinued).

So here is what I did while they were gone.

I left the IV in for now, ate some leftovers (mommy's milk) and acted like I was asleep when they got back and listened to how excited they were to hear the good news while daddy washed his undies and stinky socks and mommy put sheets on the pull out chair.

Now that I am done with this blog entry I am going to sleep for real.

I think I am ready to go home tomorrow...

What should I do about the Brit Milah they have scheduled for me?

Billy Ruben...Go Away!

Also, known as our first trip to the hospital!

Hi Everyone!

I have been having a great new experience with Mommy and Daddy the last few days.

It is really exciting and a bit confusing. I mean, one minute I am on an emotional roller-coaster at home, the next minute I am rushed to a hospital.

They said I am jaundiced too much and dehydrated, admitted me into the NICU, stuck an IV in my arm, threw me under some bright lights, Velcro-ed on some shades and now I am set.

Billy Ruben…he is the whole problem. See, my name is Zion Baumgarten and Billy Ruben is in my body and the Doctors want Billy gone.

While we are here, mommy and I are learning to breast-feed the right way and I know we are going to get it right. Neither of us had to do this before and I am very frustrated at the whole confusing thing.

The other thing I see is how my parents are so great with each other. My being here could have caused them a problem but they just get closer and more loving each time I throw something at them.

Hummm....what shall I do next?

Ta ta for now.

p.s. I am getting better...

Papa and Me!

Finally I got some sleep in Papa's arms after a long day of eating,
crying, and doing my personal business.
I love you Papa!

I Cry Out...MOMMY!

This is me crying...I am very hungry right now.

My Angel, Aunt Ellen

I want to seriously acknowledge my Aunt Ellen for taking care of my parents through their first week of parenthood.

You came down to Atlanta from Charlotte, jumped right in and changed diapers, stayed up nearly every night to make sure I was taken care of. Bounced me for hours and hours as I cried, yawned and made funny faces at you. You cooked, brought toiletries, clothes, batteries, computers and food to the hospital, and most importantly you were completely loving and generous beyond belief...Are you sure your not, like, 20 years old or something?

I love you!

Zion

Day Four

My First Shower with Daddy

Today I took my first shower with my daddy.

At first it I was cold.

After a minute I warmed up to the idea and loved the warm water.

Daddy didn't do the best job of cleaning me...I think he wanted to save
some for later!
